College Profile: The Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) is a premier, national level Institute for Post Graduate, Fellowship and Mid-career/inservice education, research and consulting in rural management. Founded in 1979, IRMA’s mission is to promote all-round sustainable
rural development through professional management.
The Verghese Kurien Policy Lab (VKPL) at IRMA undertakes research based on micro-data and helps evaluate policies and development
programs of the central and state governments. The methodological focus of the lab is on quasi and field experiments. VKPL is committed
to sharing of its research and field-level findings as well as developmental strategies with policy-makers and implementing agencies. The
central research themes of the lab include problems related with livelihood strategies, decentralization and governance, empowerment of
women, financial inclusion, relationship between rural households and markets, provision of public services, and impact of rights-based
schemes and programs. VKPL is inviting applications for the post of Research Fellow (RF, 1 position) and Research Associate (RA, 1
position). We expect to attract exceptional candidates for both the positions and the successful candidate(s) will undertake research
activities along with the VKPL faculty team. The lab is currently headed by Dr. Vivek Pandey. The RF will provide technical and
managerial support for designing and implementing large-scale household and community surveys and coordinate lab’s field experiments.
The RA will work alongside RF to design surveys, train the survey team, work with the CAPI team to implement surveys using hand-held
devices, data management, and develop strong programming and analytical skills for using micro-econometric methods of program
evaluation. Candidates in both the position are expected to actively engage in research, publication, policy dissemination efforts of the
lab.

The Research Fellow will provide support to various research activities of the lab that include writing research grants, design and manage the implementation of field experiments and surveys, peer review and quality-assurance for VKPL authored research and grant reports, and provide technical mentorship to Research Associates.
The Research Associate will work on econometric aspects of program evaluation. The work will primarily entail designing of mobile-based surveys, data cleaning, data management (including merge/append/loops/assert, etc.) and data analysis using micro-econometric techniques such as instrumental methods, matching, regression discontinuity designs, synthetic control methods, and the various forms of natural and field experiment. The lab will invest in the capacities of RA and expects the RA to develop and apply sound coding skills real time.

Qualification and Experience for RF:
- Post-graduate in Economics (including applied, agricultural, and mathematic economics), statistics, public policy, or other relevant social science field with a strong quantitative focus
- Intermediate-level knowledge of evidence-based policy analysis and evaluation. The candidate should have a demonstrated trackrecord of conducting experimental and/or quasi-experimental impact evaluations.
- Advance knowledge of statistical software packages (STATA or R)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- At least two years of work experience beyond post-graduate studies in relevant fields.
Qualification and Experience for RA:
- Post-graduate in Economics (including applied, agricultural, and mathematic economics) statistics, public policy, or other relevant social science field with a strong quantitative focus
- Basic econometric skills Introductory knowledge of statistical software packages (STATA or R)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Preferably less than two years of work experience beyond post-graduate studies in relevant fields. Candidates who have just recently or about to finish their post-graduate studies will receive equal weight age

Salary Package:
Candidates should be available to initiate the work at the earliest. VKPL offers a consolidated remuneration of Rs.36,000/- per month for
RA position, and Rs.46,000/-per month for the RF position.
